Hwy. 127 Senior Center news

By Susan Goforth / Chronicle contributor

The Senior Citizens of 127 South met May 2, with President Emil Neitzke presiding. Prayer was led by Nevin Harrison, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Bingo was played from 10-11 a.m., with many useful prizes handed out. Members thank the person who furnished these gifts.

Nevin Harrison has just returned from a trip to Turkey, where he visited friends. Carol Kirkland reported on the sick, and she is happy to report that John Marvin is doing well. Irene Malgeri, the Enoksens, Shirley Phillips and Dorothy Kearly are on the prayer list. Emil said he had spoken with Gene Broughton, who is still having medical problems. Members will certain miss Gene and Jo, for they have been active members for many years. Emil announced the exercise class that has been discontinued.

He reported on the roof repair and a new storage shed to replace the one that was damaged. A new member is Robert Thames.

Jan said the $30 for the Nissan trip June 10 is due now. She will be away on the Mount Rushmore trip May 24-June 1. Emil is making ID tags for all those going on the trip. July 16 will be the trip to Nashville to ride on the General Jackson.

The annual picnic will be held at Obed Park in July. Aluminum cans are collected at the center, along with items for the 127 Corridor sale. This looks like a busy year for all.

Members were pleased to have the "Over the Hill Gang" with them. They play bluegrass music every Thursday night at the center, and members enjoyed hearing them at the meeting. Chuck Troiano, Gene Brown, John Sloan, Reese Noble and Donnie Hammock make up the group. Shirley Phillips gave each performer a monetary gift in memory of Howard Norris.

Following the blessing, a great meal of kraut and sausage, with many other dishes, was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Rose Garchow, Sharon Hilton, Rachel Schellinger, and all who work in the kitchen.
