Food drive expected to feed thousands of hungry families

Cumberland County city and rural letter carriers are asking their postal customers for food, not because they're hungry, but because they want to help feed those who are. The 16th annual Letter Carrier's Food Drive will be held May 10, and residents across America and in Cumberland County are being asked to participate. Customers are being asked to place non-perishable food items in plastic bags on or beside their mailbox. Carriers will collect the food donations as part of their rounds May 10. All food collected in Cumberland County is distributed directly to food pantries of local churches.
This is a tremendous opportunity for letter carriers, and customers alike, to give something back to their community. The National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive will be coordinated again this year by city carrier Gail Smith, and any inquiries can be directed to her at the Crossville Post Office.
On behalf of the NALC and the United States Postal Service, all citizens of Cumberland County are encouraged to join in the effort to improve the quality of life for the less fortunate.
