Local artists looking for chairs

Spring cleaning? If you find among the dust and cobwebs of winter an old chair or other piece of wood or wicker or even metal furniture, the artists of the Crossville Arts Council will use their imaginations to turn it into a piece of functional artwork. They gladly accept donations for their upcoming “Mountain Chair-ubs” painted furniture auction which will benefit Arts in Education projects for students in the Cumberland County school system. Call Judy Pearson at 484-8234 for pick-up of items.

If you don’t find anything worth sprucing up, they would be pleased to have you come and bid on the items they do have, which are as varied as the artists and crafters who have added their own special creative touches to them. The live and silent auction is on Friday, May 16, at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex in Crossville and is paired with the always popular “Taste of Crossville,” when local restaurants and caterers bring their tastiest tidbits for you to sample. While it isn’t a “meal,” they guarantee you won’t go away hungry.

Tickets at $15 are now available at the Artist Corner and Express Lunch, both on Main Street, or by calling Tracy Cass at 267-2264, Judy Pearson at 484-8234 or Frances Carson at 261-7738. Kids under 10 are free, and they will have a special kids’ room with kid-friendly munchies and an art project to keep them occupied while you place your bids on your favorite items. Ticket holders who stay until the final cry of “SOLD” from our auctioneer will be eligible for a whopping door prize – a week at a timeshare!

Don’t miss your chance to take home a piece (or more than one) of beautiful functional art, and possibly win a free vacation to boot. Call or stop by for your tickets today. All this fun is brought to you by the Crossville Arts Council with the help of their sponsors, Dr. Stewart Galloway, the Art & Frame Shop, Cumberland County Bank, Gwin Realty, and donors throughout the community.
