Spring Garden and Flower Show blooms to life April 27-29

The Cumberland County Master Gardeners' fifth annual Spring Garden and Flower Show is to be held April 27-29. This show offers the home gardener unique ways to solve problems, develop knowledge and instructions for new and exciting projects for personal gardens and understand the wonderful and unique relationship between aesthetic beauty and the Plateau topography in a garden that is workable.

The Garden and Flower Show will feature self-help clinics in a variety of subjects and the opportunity to view exhibits and shop with the vendors. A three-day pass is $3 and children under 12 are admitted free at the Community Complex with free parking. The hours for the three day show are as follows:

• April 27 — 2-6 p.m.

• April 28 — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• April 29 — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be daily local entertainment and food at the Garden Cafe.

The Cumberland County Master Gardeners Association was formed in 1998. Since that time, more than 240 local citizens have received 40 hours of classrooms education under the guidance of the University of Tennessee School of Agriculture in gardening and landscaping. In order to be a certified Master Gardener, participants must volunteer hours of service to the community. Some volunteer activities of the Master Gardeners include landscape design of the Cumberland Playhouse, maintenance of the Crossville Memorial Garden, the Community Garden Project at the Agriculture Experiment Station and telephone consultation at the Cooperative Extension Office during the growing season.

Proceeds from the Flower and Garden show are used for College Scholarships for local students, to maintain a horticultural library at the extension office and to provide ongoing education for the Master Gardener Association.

The mission statement, "Promoting Gardening through Education and Service," shows how learning and lending talents of community individuals can cultivate our love of gardening for personal and public involvement.
