NC man indicted for 1st degree murder of Knoxville woman

CROSSVILLE — A special session of the Cumberland County Grand Jury met Friday and indicted a North Carolina man on a single count of first-degree murder for the death of a woman whose body was discovered in Crab Orchard Tuesday afternoon.

Allen Stacy Rogers, 32, a truck driver of North Carolina, was taken into custody Friday morning in Mitchell County, NC.

Rogers is now charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing Summer Nicole Nelms, 35, of Knoxville, according to Deputy District Attorney General Gary McKenzie.

A preliminary report from the medical examiner reveals that Nelms died of multiple blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds prior to being run over by a large truck. Nelms' body was found in Crab Orchard at the BP station off Hwy. 70 E near I-40.

Rogers is currently being held in Mitchell County, NC and is fighting extradition to Tennessee. The district attorney general's offices in Tennessee and North Carolina are working together to extradite Rogers to Cumberland County, TN.

McKenzie anticipates Rogers should be returned to Cumberland County in a few weeks.

Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department have worked on the case non-stop since Nelms' body was discovered Tuesday afternoon.
