Uplands Retirement Village received a 2008 grant from The Baptist Healing Trust. The mission of the trust is to be a caring ministry devoted to healing with love in the Christian tradition. Uplands strives to give necessary medical treatment of independent, assisted living and long-term care residents combined with essential and genuine human care that nurtures the human spirit.
Uplands Retirement Village will be using the grant for implementation of staff training which will result in better Eden Alternative practices for elder care. Located in Pleasant Hill, Uplands Retirement Village is a continuing care retirement community, who has recently been granted state approval for construction of the new Wharton Homes using the Eden Alternative Design. Uplands Retirement Village has begun their Eden Alternative Journey, which assures resident directed care, not only at Wharton Homes, but also at Fletcher Assisted Living and throughout Uplands Village.
The Baptist Healing Trust is funded by the sale of the Baptist Hospital in Nashville to Ascension Health/St. Thomas Health Services, St. Louis, Missouri. Recipients of the foundation’s grants include nonprofit organizations from all over Middle Tennessee working to help create access to quality, compassionate health services for the vulnerable. The Baptist Healing Trust has given a total of more than $44 million in grants since 2002 in support of health related, nonprofit organizations.
