I-40 tanker crash.jpg

Two elderly motorists were injured in this two-vehicle crash that occurred on I-40 near the 324 milemarker in the west lane last Thursday around 11 a.m. Attempts to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol for information about the crash were not successful. The car appeared to have struck an inside guardrail and then crossed into the right lane, striking the tank on the tractor-trailer rig and becoming stuck under the tank. The tanker was carrying a load of a highly combustible form of gas, causing emergency crews to close I-40 for several hours. Injuries to the two victims were not believed to be life-threatening.
