A group of about 20 gathered at Cumberland Mountain State Park Wednesday to enjoy the first hike of 2014, led by Ranger Monica Johnson. The group enjoyed a 2.7 mile hike along the Pioneer Short Loop Trail. It's the third year Tennessee State Parks have offered a first-day hike, said Deputy Commissioner for Parks and Conservation Brock Hill, with the first state-wide initiative in 2012. It's part of a national movement, and each park in the state park system participates. Similar hikes are offered throughout the year.
